Current Topics for Online Courses

Pearson offers online courses for:

Assessment Literacy
Introduces the Comprehensive Assessment Model and gives an overview of the four interacting parts of the model: data, decision, best practices, and evaluation.

Using Test Data to Improve Teaching and Student Learning

The professional growth of teachers and administrators is critical to instructional excellence and advancing student achievement. Learning more about how to use data to approach issues systemically—so that strategic plans may be developed around the needs of teachers and students—requires meaningful, reflective professional development. Continuing professional development for your school or district helps you to make informed decisions about students, curriculum, and instruction.

Maximize your use of assessment data with our training and professional development services. Our professional services support the implementation of data-based decision-making to maximize student and school performance. Whether you are using one of our assessments for the first time or desire more advanced professional development on today’s “hot topics,” we offer a wide range of courses to meet your needs, either on-site or through Internet-based delivery.

Webinars

These live presentations are conducted via the Internet and the telephone and you view them on your own computer. Most are free-of-charge and last approximately 1 hour.

Pre-recorded Sessions

Powered by Brainshark, our brief, complimentary pre-recorded sessions allow you to learn anytime. All you need is Internet access and the sound enabled on your computer.

On-Site and Internet-Based Courses

A sample of some of the on-site and Internet-based services that we offer are listed here. To increase the options available to you, we offer both traditional on-site, instructor-led courses and independent modules for these same courses via our new learning management system.

The advantage? Learn whenever it is convenient for you and be able to document your participation via activities that are presented in the online courses. Several of these brief options are included with your purchase of an assessment. The more extensive assessment-specific professional development options (whether on-site or online) are designed to offer you the next level of training beyond the posttest workshop that your Educational Measurement Consultant has provided.

General Topics

  • Assessment Literacy
    On-site or Internet-based, Duration: 3 Hours
The Assessment Literacy model is a decision-making model for building an understanding of what assessment methods to use to answer specific types of questions. When we assess, we use the data to make curriculum, instructional, student-based, and system-based decisions. You will explore the assessments you use and develop an understanding of what kind of information can be gathered using the four essential components of this model. As a result of this session, you will have the tools to promote, support, and explain “data-driven decision-making” in your system or school.

  • Differentiated Instruction Strategies
    On-site or Internet-based, Duration: 3 hours
After looking at assessment results, schools want to know, “What’s next?” This course is designed for those interested in learning a compendium of differentiated instructional strategies that may be applied within a RTI framework at Tiers 1 and 2 to meet the needs of all students. The course focuses on differentiated, effective instructional techniques.
